My name is Sterling, and though I’m from the Bay Area, I lived and studied in NYC when I started this blog, and now I live in Atlanta. With my busy schedule and low tolerance for redundant meals, I decided to go off the meal plan in college. I asked my parents if I could have a stipend each semester for food, which is the equivalent of what they would pay for the lowest available meal plan. I budgeted my meals, and so far, I have kept off the freshmen 15 and feel reasonably healthy, especially since I don’t exercise.

My friends and classmates seem impressed with my discipline and interest in cooking. I explain to them that cooking gives me time to myself. It gives me time to relax. I don’t have to think about work, school, relationships, or anything else that stresses me out or bogs me down. I can just cook and eat, which are two of my favorite things to do. They just nod and say “That’s cool.  I wish I had that kind of motivation.” It’s really not that hard, and I’d like to show you why.

    Your father just shared this with me and I think it is totally awesome. When I have more time, I’ll keep reading about your adventures in cooking.

    Congrats on your thesis exhibition….hope I can see some of it soon….REALLY proud of you.
