This Week’s Groceries

It’s becoming stew/soup season, so I think I’m going to make an Irish stew that I found on Recipezaar after being inspired by the “intermediate” recipe on YumSugar. I decided not to post my fish recipe from last week because not only did it fail, but I’m just too busy. It also wasn’t that difficult and was remarkably similar to the other one I made. So anyway, here’s my list (groceries not from U.O. in italics):

eggplant
local collards
red leaf lettuce
spinach
carrots
garnet yams
russet potato
kiwi
bananas
navel oranges
bartlett pears
golden delicious apples
milk
eggs
sour cream
onions
chicken broth (though I guess I should’ve gotten beef?)
lamb neck
pasta
bacon
shredded cheddar

Urban Organic ($26.98) + other groceries ($25.19) = $52.17
total left in budget = $20.39 (bought lunch on Monday)

Last Week’s Groceries – I’m So Behind!

So sorry I haven’t posted for the past week – crazy, as usual. I decided to make a tilapia recipe again, which somewhat failed/somewhat succeeded. Anyway, I’ll post that later. Unfortunately, since Urban Organic stopped giving out their newsletter, and this week’s groceries are posted, I don’t remember what the Urban Organic groceries were! But I can at least post my grocery list for Gristede’s, in addition to my budget stuff:

eggs
milk
tofu
grape tomatoes
chicken broth
Thai chili sauce
tilapia
rice
red onion

Urban Organic ($26.98) + other groceries ($25.61) = $52.59
total left in budget = $27.41

This Week’s Groceries

This past weekend was kind of crazy. Some friends came into town, which meant I was spending money left and right. And then yesterday some friends and I went to a bar to celebrate…well, being awesome I guess. I won’t mention how much I spent, but I’ll let you know that it doesn’t affect my budget too much.

In terms of groceries and recipes this week, it’s all going to be pretty simple. But I’ve decided to make a fish dish this week, and so I’m oddly excited about that. Also, in my box this week, I requested not to receive romaine lettuce. They did, however, give me spinach instead, which is awesome even though I didn’t ask for it. (This week it’s an item not included in little boxes.) I also decided to go to the Westerly natural market because I need fish sauce, which they don’t have at Gristedes. So here’s the list (groceries not from U.O. are in italics):

eggplant
collards
green onions (scallions)
spinach
carrots
garnet yams
russet potatoes
kiwi
valencia oranges
bartlett pears
pink lady apples
milk
eggs
tilapia
fish sauce
Irish steel cut oatmeal
black beans

Urban Organic ($26.98) + groceries ($21.35) = $48.33
total left in budget = $31.67

This Week’s Groceries

You ever have one of those days when you just can’t get it right? Today has been one of those days. Fortunately, my order with Urban Organic was complete (minus the newsletter). I also decided to buy a bottle of Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier, so that’s making my day not so bad. 🙂 Here’s the list (groceries not from U.O. are in italics):

broccoli
kale
yellow onions
romaine lettuce
carrots
garnet yams
russet potatoes
kiwi
valencia oranges
bartlett pears
pink lady apples
bananas
turkey cutlets (oops – thought it said chicken)
chicken broth
spaghetti
eggs
cooking spray
tofu
beer (Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier)

Urban Organic ($26.98) + groceries ($23.16) = $50.14
total left in budget = $26.40 (bought munchies on sunday)

This Week’s Groceries

As much as I’ve been loving my vegetables, Urban Organic manages to miss something almost every time; however, this week’s mix-up could be my own fault. My regular standing order is a little box. These past couple weeks, as you’ve seen, I’ve ordered an original value box for me and my roommates to share. I assumed that, since I did not request an original value box this week, I would receive a little box. Lo and behold, I received an original value box and paid for it too.

So I sent them an email about it to ask what their policy is regarding box size changes. They’ve always been very prompt and polite, so I’m assuming I’ll receive a helpful explanation! In other news, I decided to go to the Westerly Natural Market next to Gristedes and give it a try. My total costs ended up the same, but they were missing a couple things. For example, I need bacon and Bisquick for my brunch on Sunday – couldn’t find bacon, and I’m guessing they don’t carry Bisquick. But they do carry a variety of ethnic foods, which was cool. All in all, a food-filled day (groceries not from U.O. are in italics):

broccoli
baby bok choy
green pepper
green leaf
lettuce
spinach
carrots
red potatoes
celery
limes
star ruby grapefruit
valencia oranges
bananas
cantaloupe
bartlett pears
pink lady apples
oj
eggs
basmati rice
pasta
chocolate chips
onion
chicken thighs
shredded cheddar

Urban Organic ($36.98) + groceries ($27.34) = $64.32
total left in budget = $15.68 (I had some leftover cash from last week to buy myself dinner yesterday.)

This Week’s Groceries

So this week I’m only splitting my Urban Organic box with one other roommate, but that’s OK. More for me I guess. U.O. gave me credit for my missing tofu, and this week I decided to just buy it from the grocery store. I’m tired of not having protein in my meals! And they forgot to give me a newsletter! That makes me sad – I love those. So here’s the list (groceries not from U.O. are in italics):

look at these yams! have you ever seen yams so small?! i haven't.

Urban Organic ($19.14) + groceries ($31.87) = $51.01
total left in budget = $16.99 (went drinking a couple nights ago)

Beets. Beets. Beets.

Got my original value box from Urban Organic! They refunded my $2.99 for the tofu from last week, BUT they forgot my tofu this week! I’m guessing tofu is a hot item, so maybe I need to start ordering it earlier? Here’s my grocery lists (groceries not from U.O. in italics):

broccoli
local collards
yellow onions
red leaf lettuce
eggplant
carrots
russet potato
bunch beets
kiwi

money left in budget = $19.47 (got pho and dinner past couple days)
